A lot of DU members volunteered at the KP Tournament on 11/29 helping with scorekeeping, timekeeping, reffing, bracketing, organizing food donations, and altogether helping to make sure the 20-team tournament was supported so that the players and friends/family could have the best time! The tournament kicked off with a moment to recognize Joel and his family who were recently taken by ICE. He should have been there with everyone, spending his Saturday playing with his friends. In coordination with KP Organizers, with thanks to Coffee By Design (a 4th Amendment Rights business) for offering space (and endless hot chocolate), DU volunteers started their day before the tournament to review guidance provided by the ACLU and to talk about our role in making sure everyone in our community is protected. So many members of the DU showed out to volunteer and cheer for an amazing day of futsal and we can’t wait to do it again!

Like many Kennedy Park Pick-up Soccer Tournaments, this one was a full-blown affairs with 20 full teams competing for prizes donated by the Hearts of Pine

The competition kicked off with a group stage using both the main Kennedy Park blacktop and the 2 basketball blacktops on the other side of the field. With 3 games going on nearly all day their was a lot of action to take in!

Despite the cold, we were grateful for many local pizza shops for donating a hot lunch for staff and players including Flatbreads and Leonardos. Coffee by Design also generously donated hot chocolate for games that went post dark.
