A Message from the Chief BANDit

The BANDits are the Dirigo Union's match-day band and are the bedrock of the chants and songs you will hear at Hearts Matches.

First. Competitive. Game. Ever.

As I write this, there are still two weeks to go, and I’m already so pumped that I’m having trouble sleeping. I know lots of you have been working hard on membership, podcasts, social media, community outreach and other critical Dirigo Union business. I want to make sure you know that the gameday crew has been working just as hard and we are ready.

Long before I got involved in Fall 2024, DU legends Donald, Dana, and Kris were writing songs and chants. Our chant thread on Discord has been overflowing with ways to get the crowd and the players fired up, and make some noise while we’re at it. Before we even signed a coach or players, the Valentine Band drum and horn line was formed. Over the past several months, every other Wednesday night at Bunker Brewing has been part social hour and part band practice (thanks, Molly).

Due to the hard work of Bandits Ian, Bryan, Jay, Sam, Nick, Kris and myself, the Valentine Band is primed and ready to unleash noise and support. We have a supporter’s band to rival anything in USL League One (and beyond). We’ve got original songs, chants and drumbeats, and we’ve stolen some great songs from the recesses of my music library.

Our goal for March 20th is to make people think, “There is no way in hell that this is their first ever game.” And to do that, we’ll need your help. We need voices. We need noise. So here are my requests to you, the Dirigo Union:

  • Show up March 20th ready to be loud.

  • Before then, at least check out some lyrics on the DU website.

  • If you can, show up at Bunker Brewing to learn some lyrics with others.

    • March 8th from 4-7

    • March 12th from 8-9 (show up as early as 6 for socializing)

    • March 19th from 8-9 (show up as early as 6 for socializing)

And above all, UP THE HEARTS.

Sean Daly, Chief Bandit
